Gyongbok Palace-National Folk Museum-Blue House- Chogyesa Temple-Insadong Antique Shop¡¯s Alley- Chunggaecun Stream


In the Gyeongbok Palace, the most representative edifices of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeonghoe-ru Pavilion and Hyangwonjeong Pond still remain. Woldae and sculptures of Geunjeongjeon (The Royal Audience Chamber) represent the past sculpture art which was the trend back then. The National Palace Museum of Korea is located south of Heungnyemun Gate, and the National Folk Museum is located east within Hyangwonjeong.
Insadong has been at the heart of nation¡¯s capital for 600 years and it has been the center of culture during the Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910). This is where the Ministry of Art was once situated. Over forty percent of the nation¡¯s antique stores are in Insadong. It sells more valuable antiques compared to other art streets in Korea.

Bongeunsa Temple, once known as Gyeonseongsa Temple, is located to the north of COEX building, and was constructed in the 10th year of Shilla King Weongseong¡¯s reign (794). In 1498, Queen Jeonghyeon refurbished Gyeonseongsa Temple at the east of King Seongjong¡¯s royal mausoleum and renamed the temple as Bongeunsa.

DMZ tourist sites have been created to quench peoples¡¯ curiosity on this unique area where tension and peace coincide. After the Korean War (June 25, 1950), South Korea and North Korea negotiated and then designated the DMZ [demilitarized zone] 2km away from the truce line on each side of the border. Namdaemun Market, located in the very center of Seoul, is the biggest traditional market in Korea selling clothing, daily goods, kitchenware and local and imported products. Most shops have their own factories and make the products themselves offering both wholesale and retail prices which enables visitors to purchase various shopping items at an extremely inexpensive price.

Jogyesa Temple is the center of Zen Buddhism in Korea, and is famous for being located in the city. From the busy streets of Jongno, follow the road towards Anguk Subway Station, and you will see Jogyesa Temple. The first thing you will notice at the temple is the lovely trees. These locust trees and baeksong trees in front of the Daeungjeon, the main temple building, are about 500 years old. Cheonggyecheon Stream offers many beautiful sights to see and enjoy:
