Danyang Gosu Cave - Cungujuho Lake Ferry - Eight Views of Danyang
Gosu Cave is a limestone cave situated in Danyang-gun. This extensive cave is 1,300 meters deep, and is well known for its beauty. The name Gosu comes from the fact that in the past, the area was filled with thickets of tall grass. Rough stone instruments were excavated at the cave entrance, which revealed that this area was home to the prehistoric human beings. Eight Views of Danyang designated as the most beautiful sceneries in Danyang, are Haseonam, Jungseonam, Sangseonam, Sainam, Gudambong, Oksunbong, Dodamsambong, and Seokmun. These areas were visited many times by numerous scholars during the Joseon Period (1392-1910), and contains many historically and culturally important relics.

Byeonsan Peninsula National Park & Naesosa Temple
Byeonsan Peninsula National Park stretches 35km and covers five townships along the coast. Designated as a national park in 1988, it is the only national park in the country that has both a seashore and mountain. The park is divided into two large sections. The shore area is called Oebyeonsan (Outer Mt.Byeonsan), and inland is called Naebyeonsan (Inner Mt. Byeonsan). Naesosa Temple was built by Buddhist Monk Hye-Gu in 633A.D. during the Silla Dynasty, and was rebuilt by Monk Cheong-Min during the Joseon Dynasty in 1633. There are fir trees on either side of the entrance that extends for about 600m as you walk into the main gate of Naesosa Temple. The path is shaped like a tunnel with the trees.

Andong Hahoe Village - Gyungju Golgunsa (Stone Buddha Temple)
Andong Hahoe Village has preserved the housing architecture and the village structure of the Joseon dynasty. Moreover, the village was not artificially created. Three sides of Hahoe Village (Main Folk Asset No.122) is surrounded by the Nakdonggang River. Because the river swirls around the village, the village is named Hahoe, and is also called the spinning river village. Golgulsa, located at the foot of Mt. Hamwol, is the only temple cave in Korea. The temple was built out of solid rock during the 6th century by Saint Gwang Yoo and some accompanying monks, and was designed according to the architectural structure of India.

Hongdo Island is composed of about 20 islands, and because it has an usual reddish-brown color about it, it is called Hongdo(Red Island). When the sunsets over the island, the whole area takes on a red hue. The seashore is filled with sea cliffs with diverse shapes of rocks. With the blue sea and green forest, it remains the most spectacular sight in the Southern Sea. Heuksando Island has a circular road that can take you all the way around the island along the seashore. Following this road, you can see almost all of the beautiful natural and cultural treasures of the island. The Choryeongmok Tree, once designated as Natural Monument, is said to have the ability to concur up spirits when its branch was broken and placed on a Buddhist altar. |
